Totems are objects inside the most twisted dreams of a villain (specifically the Binary Bard, Captain Crawfish, Dr. Hare, and Black Widow) that are the source of their evil.
Role on Super Villain Island
You are asked by Dr. Jupiter (who later reveals himself as Zeus) to enter four villains' dreams (namely the Binary Bard, Captain Crawfish, Dr. Hare, and the Black Widow), and collect their totems. After you do so, Zeus will reveal his plans: to conquer Poptropica using the totems.
With Poseidon's help, you will eventually defeat Zeus once more, and he will give you the totems back. The Security Guards of Erewhon Prison For Super Villains will then give you the island medallion.
