The John Bull Coal Man shovels coal into the engine of the John Bull.
The coal man wears a black pin-striped baker boy hat with goggles over it. He has a coal-streaked face with a clear outline around his eyes where his goggles should sit on his face. He wears a stained black bandanna on his neck covering a pair of black overalls with a black shirt underneath.
He seems to do his job well, as the John Bull has no fuel-related problems throughout the whole island. He does take occasional breaks, which leaves the coal car empty allowing anybody to stop the train should they happen to sneak in. He's loyal to his work however, and minds his own business during trips not bothering other passengers or their belongings.
Role on Mystery Train
You first meet the Coal Man right after you board the Train. Talk to him, and he'll welcome you aboard. Later, when the john Bull takes an unsheduled stop, you talk to the John Bull Conductor, who thinks that the stop was all the Coal Man's fault. Use the magnifying glass to collect the clue Coal Smudges, run right to the only person you know has coal on him: The Coal Man. Bring him to the Interrogation Table and ask him about the Coal Smudges. "Okay, okay! I did leave to get a snack, and that's when the train stopped, but I didn't go near the luggage, you can ask the Porter!" he confesses. As he does, the Coal Smudges clue disappears and a new clue, Coal Man Left for a Snack appears. Since the Coal Man told you to ask the John Bull Porter, go ahead and do so. Although, the Porter is now at the left of VIP Car 2. When you reach him/her, bring him/her to the Interrogation Table and ask him/her that the Coal Man Left for a Snack.
